Re: Osama
Wed, June 30, 2004 - 12:31 PMIt was a painful education for me. The filmmaker,
shameful I don't remember her name just now,
showed extreme courage to make the film but also
that she did not pull back from the childs fear
& her world. The boy reminded me of the boy in
Shalom Bombay which is also a sad awareness of
others lives. -

Wed, June 30, 2004 - 12:37 PMAhhh, Baran. That also had the similiar storyline of the girl disguised as a boy to be able to survive, yes. Where she works alongside the men building the brick apartment that is unsafe/illegal. I went to the earlier post to get film names. I watch a lot of movies & read all the time so titles slip from me.

Re: Osama
Sat, February 19, 2005 - 6:15 PMThe director is a man who went to film school in Russia (I think). He specifically chose non-actors to work with. I liked the film, but the ending was absolutely disappointing. I was too used to Majid Majidi's films (Children of Heaven, Baran, Colors of Paradise) where the ending is depressing, but still contains a sense of hope and redemption. Osama was only depressing.
